RosieQueen Latifah was born to Dana Elaine Owens in Newark, New Jersey, on March 18, 1970. Latifah was the second daughter of Lance Owens and Rita Owens is well-known for her political and acting abilities, as well as her gift for rhyme. When she was eight years young an Muslim cousin gave her the name Latifah which means "delicate and sensitive" in Arabic. Latifah sang with the Shiloh Baptist Church's Choir in Bloomfield, New Jersey. Her first public performance , singing "Home" as one of the two Dorothys in a production of The Wizard of Oz. Latifah's mom was a major influencer and she kept in touch with the school and with the music. She invited Mark James, a local disc jockey who is known as D.J. Mark the 45 King, was invited to perform at a dance school.
